"The Catch" refers to a play during a football game between Clemson and South Carolina on Nov. 19, 1977 at Columbia, SC.

Late in the 4th quarter of the game, quarterback Steve Fuller made a 20-yard pass to the backward diving Jerry Butler into the endzone for a touchdown with 49 seconds left, allowing Clemson to defeat South Carolina 31-27. [1]

"The Catch" is remembered by Clemson fans as a pivotal moment in the history of the school's football program, and is remembered as one of the greatest moments in the rivalry between the schools. This win allowed Clemson Head coach Charlie Pell to revitalize the program on its way to a National title under Danny Ford in 1981.
