The North Dakota Fighting Hawks football team represents the University of North Dakota located in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Previously North Dakota was known as the "Fighting Sioux", but the school dropped the nickname before the 2012 season at the request of the NCAA. North Dakota went without a nickname until adopting the "Fighting Hawks" for the 2016 season.
The Fighting Hawks are a member of the NCAA FCS Missouri Valley Football Conference, which they joined in 2020. North Dakota was previously a member of the NCAA FCS Big Sky Conference. During the 2018 & 2019 seasons, the Fighting Hawks played a full Big Sky Conference schedule but were ineligible for the conference championship.
North Dakota plays their home games at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks and are currently coached by Eric Schmidt.
