The Maryland–Rutgers rivalry is an annual Big Ten Conference rivalry game between the University of Maryland and Rutgers University. Between 1920 and 2009, both schools played in separate conferences and had a combined total of nine meetings during that span. It wasn't until the 2010–14 Big Ten Conference realignment, that both schools would become conference foes in the newly expanded Big Ten Conference. From 2014 till 2023 Maryland and Rutgers competed against one another in the Big Ten East Division. Following their invitation to the Big Ten Maryland has held a 7-3 Advantage in the rivalry. Maryland holds a 12-8 edge overall, while Rutgers won the last match up in 2024 with a 31-17 victory over the Terrapins. In 2024 the Big Ten announced that Maryland-Rutgers would continue to be play as a protected-rivalry through 2028.
