The Georgia Southern Eagles football team represents Georgia Southern University located in Statesboro, Georgia. The Eagles are a member of the NCAA FBS Sun Belt Conference, which they joined in 2014.
Georgia Southern first fielded a football team in 1924 but suspended the program during World War II. The team was revived in 1981 and played as an NCAA 1-AA independent from 1984 to 1991. In 1992 the Eagles joined the 1-AA/FCS Southern Conference where they stayed before leaving for the Sun Belt.
The Eagles play their home games at Paulson Stadium in Statesboro and are currently coached by Clay Helton.
