Corey Jermaine Simon was born on March 2, 1977 in Boynton Beach, Florida, and is currently a defensive tackle for the Indianapolis Colts. He was released from the Philadelphia Eagles during training camp in 2005 because of contract issues. He was drafted in the first round in 2000 by the Eagles. As of October 5 2006, Simon will miss the remainder of the season with an undisclosed medical problem [1]. Early reports stated polyarthritis, but his agent and Colts GM Bill Polian stated it has nothing to do with previous surgery to fix polyarthritis. Rumors link his sitting out the season as lack of desire, being overweight, and/or being told by his preacher to never play again. The latter is thought to be a joke.
NFL career[]
From 2000 until 2005, he played for the Philadelphia Eagles and was in four NFC Championship during his years there and only went to one Super Bowl which he lost. He was cut from the Eagles in the 2005 offseason and shortly after that was signed by the Indianapolis Colts and his team got homefield advantage in which his Philadelphia Eagles did from 2002-04, but his Indianapolis Colts lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers after a bye. In 2006, he was put on the Physically Unable to Perform/Non-Football Injury list during training camp and did not play in any games.
College career[]
From 1996 through 1999 Simon played for the Florida State Seminoles where he was considered to be the most dominating defensive lineman in college football. In his senior season, Simon was a Consensus All-American and All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team selection and was a Finalist for the Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy. He ended his career at FSU by helping his team win a national championship. His 44 tackles behind the line of scrimmage tied the school career-record first set by Ron Simmons.
High school career[]
Corey Simon attended Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Florida. As a senior, he was the Miami Herald's defensive player of the year, named to the All-USA squad by USA Today, and a Super Prep Dream Team selection.
