BenJarvus Green-Ellis is a running back who is currently a free agent. Green-Ellis played college football at Ole Miss and has played professionally for the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals.
College Career[]
Recruited out of St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, Louisiana, Green-Ellis played his first two years of college football for the Indiana Hoosiers. In his first year at Indiana, Green-Ellis ran for 983 yards on 225 carries with 7 touchdowns. In his sophomore year, Green-Ellis ran for 794 yards on 231 carries with 5 touchdowns as part of a running back tandem with Chris Taylor.
After Indiana head coach Gerry DiNardo was fired[1] and replaced by Terry Hoeppner, Green-Ellis transfered to the Ole Miss Rebels of the SEC. As part of transfer rules, Green-Ellis sat out the 2005 season. In his two years at Ole Miss, Green-Ellis gained 2137 yards on 464 carriers with 13 touchdowns. In his 2006 season as a junior, Green-Ellis was named a first team All-SEC selection by the Associated Press.
Profesional Career[]
New England Patriots[]
Green-Ellis was signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of the 2008 NFL Draft. He was waived on August 30, 2008 but resigned to the team's practice squad a day later. On October 11, he was added to the team's active roster.
In his 4 years with the Patriots, Green Ellis ran for 2064 yards on 510 carries with 29 touchdowns, splitting much of the time with Laurence Maroney, Fred Taylor, and Danny Woodhead.
Cincinnati Bengals[]
On March 21, 2012, Green-Ellis signed a 3 year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.[2] On September 23, 2012, for the first time in his 5 year career, Green-Ellis recorded a fumble in a game against the Washington Redskins. Green-Ellis would fumble twice more during the season.
The 2013 NFL Draft brought Green-Ellis two new teammates at the running back position, 2nd-rounder Giovani Bernard out of North Carolina and 6th-rounder Rex Burkhead out of Nebraska.
The Bengals released Green-Ellis prior to the start of the 2014 season.[3]
