Northwestern State canceled its October 14 game at Nicholls State after Demons safety Ronnie Caldwell was shot and killed on October 12. The Demons' following game against Southeastern Louisiana was moved up two days so the team could attend Caldwell's wake and funeral services.
On October 26, Northwestern State canceled the remainder of it's season due to Caldwell's death, and head coach Brad Laird announced his resignation.
