Maryland head coach D.J. Durkin was placed on administrative leave on August 11 following the June 13 death of Terrapins football player Jordan McNair. McNair collapsed during a May 29 workout suffering from heat stroke, and follow-up investigations found a "toxic culture" around the Maryland football program. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada was named interim head coach. On October 30, Durkin was reinstated as football coach. But amid protests, Durkin was fired the next day.
