The 1999 season was the 40th franchise season of the San Diego Chargers and 30th season in the NFL. This was the first season for head coach Mike Riley, trying to improve on their 5–11 record from the previous year. The Chargers finished with a even 8-8 record, finishing 3rd in the AFC West and not qualifying for the playoffs. This was ultimately derived from a 7 game loss streak, stemming from a 31-9 loss to the Packers in Week 7 and a 34-0 rout by the Chiefs in Week 8.
