Summary[]

Purdue trailed 17-14 but scored twice early in the fourth quarter both following interceptions of Mike Tomczak.

The first came from Don Anderson to start Purdue at its own 21. Everett hit Rick Brunner for 46-yard pass on the first play. The Boilermakers reached the OSU 16 as the third ended and three plays into the fourth, Everett hit Bruce King for four-yard touchdown.

Keith Byars carried five times on the next series before Rod Woodson picked off Tomczak, wrenching the ball from Doug Smith and racing 55 yards to the end zone.

Ohio State reached the Purdue 5 with just over five minutes left but Cris Dishman broke up a fourth-down pass to Cris Carter in the end zone.
